Enabling Nature

Updated: 2 days ago

“Isn’t everything alive already in your blood?

Friedrich Hölderlin

One of the fruits of a Movement Medicine dancefloor is that it offers an arena for us to open and recieve more of who we are. Which for me has been a gift. An invitation for the dancer in all of us to fill ourselves out and explore embodiment; our physicality, our psyche, our self and to practice giving and receiving from this vantage point. Allowing ourselves to recieve, express and be a part of the body-mind of this living earth, listening for real impulses and natural forces that move us forwards.

I sometimes think of the Movement Medicine community as 'nature enablers' because of this opportunity to allow more of our nature to live between us. Accepting where we are, dancing with our mortal, suffering bodies to reveal more of the aliveness of our soul. It has been an deep journey for me to experience what is possible for the human collective through this path of classes, workshops, the Apprenticeship, The Long Dance, teacher/facilitator training. Our individual unique gifts and capacities have a landing ground and our collective exploration of what we are and why we are here has somewhere to practice, glean insight, let off some steam and be together.

"I've been a monk for 65 years, and what I have found is that there is no religion, no philosophy, no ideology higher than brotherhood and sisterhood. Not even Buddhism. –Thich Nhat Hahn

We can unfurl from the restrictive mapping of dualistic thinking and feel what it is to be present in our moving bodies, moment by moment. Doing this together is a lot of fun, a breathful, connected workout and it also gives us each a unique position to enjoy the adventure of expanding our skillset. Because in witnessing each other we come to know more of ourselves. Anais Nin said almost a hundred years ago "Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born " The Diary of Anaïs Nin, Vol. 1: 1931-1934. There is a meeting place in every relationship; the possibilities are endless. The dancefloor provides space for us to dance with the nature of interbeing, bringing ourselves home to rest in our moving bodies.

"you cannot just be by yourself alone; you have to inter-be with every other thing."

–Thich Nhat Hahn
